Former Planning Minister M.A Mannan got bail

Former Minister of Planning and former Member of Parliament of Sunamganj-3 Constituency M.A Mannan got bail. Senior District and Sessions Judge of Sunamganj. Hemayet Uddin was granted bail after the hearing on Wednesday afternoon. Senior lawyer Abdul Hamid, who participated in the court hearing on his behalf, confirmed the matter. Earlier, during the bail hearing of M.A Mannan in the same court at around 11 am, there was a ruckus between the two sides of the lawyers. At one point, the judge stepped down from the bench. Later in the afternoon, the bail hearing started again. At the end of the hearing, the judge granted his bail at around 2:30 pm. Lawyer Abdul Hamid said, “The court has granted bail to M.A Mannan considering his ‘age’ and ‘illness’. We have filed a bail bond in the court. His release order from the court will be sent to Sunamganj district jail first.From this prison it will be sent to Sylhet Central Prison Hospital. Then he will be released from there.” The police arrested M.A Mannan from his home in Shantiganj Upazila on the night of September 19. He fell ill in Sunamganj District Jail on Saturday. He was first taken to District Headquarters Hospital and later to Sylhet Central Prison Hospital. From there, he was transferred to Sylhet M.A.G Osmani Medical College Hospital on Tuesday morning. During the anti-discrimination student movement in Sunamganj town on August 4, the protestors were attacked. Hafiz Ahmad, the brother of the injured student Zahoor Ahmad, filed a case under the Speedy Trial Act at the Sadar Model Police Station on September 2 as the plaintiff. 99 people including M.A Mannan were accused in this case. M.A Mannan was elected Member of Parliament for four consecutive terms from Sunamganj-3 Constituency since 2008. After the 2014 elections, he was the Minister of State for Finance and Planning in the Awami League government. After the 2018 election, he got the responsibility of planning minister of the government. After being elected as a Member of Parliament in the 12th Parliament Election held on January 7, 2024, M.A Mannan was not kept in the Cabinet during this term. However, he was made the Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Planning Ministry.
