The court granted remand of two former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun for eight days and Shahidul Haque for seven days in the murder case. The court granted the remand of Abdullah Al Mamun in the murder case of Abu Syed, a grocery shopkeeper in Mohammadpur, and Shahidul in the murder case of businessman Abdul Wadud in the capital’s Newmarket Police Station area during the quota reform movement. Police produced them in CMM court of Dhaka yesterday morning. After that, the investigating officers applied to remand them for ten days for proper investigation of two separate murder cases. On the other hand, their lawyer requested to cancel the remand and applied for bail. After the hearing of both parties, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aktaruzzaman granted remand without granting bail application.
Earlier, DB police arrested them on Tuesday night.
When the police fired indiscriminately on the students and common people during the quota reform movement, grocery shopkeeper Abu Sayed was killed at Bachila 40 feet intersection of Mohammadpur police station on July 19 at around 4 pm.
