British High Commissioner in Dhaka Sarah Cook said yesterday, ‘The United Kingdom has welcomed the interim government of Bangladesh led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. Britain has the support of this new government.’

She said, ‘UK has support for the interim government of Bangladesh because this government is working to restore peace, ensure accountability, create an inclusive peaceful path and ensure a prosperous and democratic future for the people of Bangladesh.’

Cook made these comments during a meeting with Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hose.

According to a press release published by the British High Commission, in the meeting, the High Commissioner and the adviser discussed how the UK can assist the interim government in moving Bangladesh towards a democratic and prosperous future and other issues of mutual interest, including the Rohingya. They also discussed the strong and enduring relationship between the United States and Bangladesh. This relationship stands firmly on the basis of deep people-to-people ties and common commonwealth values.

“We are deeply saddened by the recent violence and loss of life,” she added.
