Bangladesh Computer Association Chottogram Branch Vice President Abdullah Al Rajeev Prakash (Sumon) has been arrested for torturing his wife for demanding dowry of Tk 50 lakh. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is investigating a case (No. 9/1) filed against her in the Women and Children Tribunal (5) for raping a 13 year old domestic worker. Accused Abdullah Al Rajeev Prakash Sumon is the owner of a shop called ‘S.A.S Computer’ on the ground floor of Motaleb Tower at Chawkbazar. He is a resident of EPIC Angan Tower on Chatteswari Road.

Chawkbazar Thana Police arrested sumon on Tuesday (June 25) afternoon on the basis of an arrest warrant issued by the court.

According to the statement of the case, the accused Suman got married to the plaintiff in the month of December 2015. They have a daughter of 4 years in their married life. After giving birth, Suman used to misbehave with his wife. His wife also complained about going to different hotels of the country with women at different times. Last on March 11, the plaintiff in the case, Kaniz Fatema, went to the passport office located in Panchlaish along with her mother for work related to her mother’s passport. At noon, Suman sent off the main housekeeper assigned to their house and forcibly raped her 13-year-old child. He threatens to harm her and kill her if she tells anyone about the rape. But when Kaniz Fatima returns home, the child tells her the whole story. When Kaniz Fatema asked her husband about it after hearing the child’s story, Suman killed her and threw her out of the house in a cloth. Since then, Kaniz Fatema has been with her mother and the child has been treated and kept at her mother’s house.

In the case filed in the CMM court, Rajeev’s wife complained; Suman is a dowry greedy, woman abuser, polygamist, woman addict. They got married on December 24, 2015 with a dowry of Tk 15 lakh. At the beginning of the marriage, they lived happily, but after the birth of the child, his behavior changed. Forced to bring money from wife’s father’s house for doing business.

Wife also complains about Suman’s changed character; Suman used to spend nights in hotels with different women. Suman used to show his wife the pictures of spending the night with prostitutes and having physical relations; If you don’t bring the dowry money, I will divorce you sometime. Keeping you so long to cook and feed me because I can’t eat at the hotel.

Kaniz Fatema, the plaintiff in the case, further mentioned; When Suman continued to misbehave, he took his savings and money from his father’s house to travel to the UK. Then when the torture continued, he was forced to seek refuge in the court.

Bangladesh Computer Association Chittagong Branch Vice President Abdullah Al Rajeev Prakash Sumon, who was arrested on charges of wife abuse, was sent to jail on Wednesday (June 26) after Sumon’s bail hearing at Additional CMM Court in Chottogram.

Advocate Sheikh Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury said, we have been able to prove in the court the alienation and bad character of Suman arrested in the case filed under section 3 of Dowry Prevention Act. The court took cognizance of the matter and denied him bail and sent him to jail.
