Push jelly in shrimp to increase weight, businessman fined

A mobile court has fined a fishmonger 5,000 taka for pushing poisonous chemicals and jelly on the bodies of shrimps in Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia.  At this time, approximately 2 kg of shrimps with jelly were seized.  Later those shrimps are buried in the ground.

According to mobile court sources, mobile court visited Kumarkhali fish market as part of regular operation. Harmful jelly-pushed shrimps are available at this time.  Mustafa Kanak (45) was fined Tk. 5,000 by the mobile court and approximately 2 kg of jelly-pushed prawns were seized and destroyed.  At this time Kumarkhali Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer.  Mahmudul Hasan was present.

He said, unscrupulous traders sell fish by adding jelly to increase the weight of shrimp.  Eating this jelly fish can cause various complications in the body including stomach and kidney diseases.  Therefore, a businessman was fined 5,000 Taka and the fish was seized and buried in the ground.  He also said that such operations will continue regularly in public interest.
