A student of class VII was raped in Sarankhola, Bagerhat. The student was raped in the garden of her house in Mourashi village of the upazila on Friday (February 23) at 9 o’clock in the morning. Jasim Mallik (28), son of Awal Mallick of the same village as the accused rapist, has been arrested by the police.

Dharshita’s uncle said that her sister and sister-in-law live in India for livelihood. They left the 13-year-old girl with him when they went to India. He kept his niece at his home and made her study in the seventh standard at the nearby Rayenda Darul Hedayet Nesharul Uloom Fazil Madrasa.

They organized Orsh Mahfil at their house on Friday night. During the event, at around 9 pm, their neighbor Jasim Mallik grabbed his niece and took her to the neighboring garden. There he was forcibly raped.

After that, when the matter came to know, the local residents arrested Jasim Mallik and informed the police. The police arrested the accused at the spot and brought him to the police station.

Sharankhola police station duty officer SI Indrajit said that the rapist Jasim has been arrested. The raped girl was rescued and kept in police custody. The process of taking legal action is going on.
