Awami League’s rivals in Chittagong are those deprived of nomination

Awami League party nominees have returned to their respective areas with the nomination letter signed by Awami League president Sheikh Hasina. There is great enthusiasm among the aspirants for nomination in Chittagong-16 constituency. At the same time, the leaders and workers of their opposition camp within the party have also entered the election field with independent candidates (deprived of nominations). Apart from party candidates, independent party candidates also collected nomination papers from the office of the Returning Officer. 13 independent candidates in 9 constituencies
Yesterday, 13 candidates, including 7 heavyweight leaders of Awami League, collected nomination papers as independent candidates in 9 out of 16 constituencies of Chittagong. The leaders and activists of Trinamool are expecting that the January 7 elections will be fiercely competitive in all these seats.
On the other hand, many candidates who were deprived of the nomination of Awami League in 16 constituencies of Chittagong have entered the election field as independent candidates to make the election festive under the party signal. However, due to the demands of the local leaders and the common people, they told the Daily morning glory that they would be independent candidates.
On November 26, Bangladesh Awami League announced the names of party nominees for 298 constituencies across the country. Party nomination letter was given to the party nominees yesterday. Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, a seven-time member of parliament and former minister, member of the presidium of Bangladesh Awami League, has given up this seat to his son. North district Awami League member Mahbubur Rahman Ruhel, son of Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, has been nominated from the party. North district Awami League member and former upazila chairman Mohammad Ghiyas Uddin was deprived of nomination for this seat. He has declared the election as an independent candidate. According to locals, Giyas Uddin is likely to have a tough contest with Ruhel on this seat.
Khadijatul Anwar Soni, Member of Parliament of reserved seat, daughter of former Member of Parliament late Rafiqul Anwar, has received party nomination of Awami League in Chittagong-2 Fatikchhari constituency. Upazila Parishad Chairman Hossain Mohammad Abu Tayyab has announced the election as an independent candidate in this seat.
Current member of Parliament Noman Al Mahmud has received Awami League party nomination for Chittagong-8 (Boalkhali-Chandagaon) constituency. Metropolitan Awami League treasurer and former chairman of Chittagong Development Authority Abduch Chalam will be elected as an independent candidate for this seat. Nomination papers have been collected from the Election Commission yesterday. Awami League leader Abduch Chalam said that he has made preliminary preparations for the election based on the opinion of the party’s leaders and workers.
Mahanagar Awami League leader Engineer Vijay Krishan Chowdhury has also announced to be elected as an independent in this constituency. He also collected nomination papers from Election Commission yesterday. Meanwhile, the former president and general secretary of South District Chhatra League, South District Awami League leader Abdul Quader Sujan said that if the permission of the party high command is given from the same constituency, he will be elected as an independent. He said, I am going to Dhaka in the night. If the center gets the green signal, then I will select it. I have been preparing.
Chittagong-10 Doublemooring-Khulshi Constituency nominated by Awami League, the current member of Parliament. Former Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation M Manjur Alam is contesting as an independent candidate along with Mohiuddin Bachchu. He said competitive and festive national elections are necessary. So I want to choose. I want to work for the welfare of the people after being elected.
Abdus Sabur Liton, the councilor and panel mayor of this ward, collected the nomination papers from the Election Commission yesterday for the election as an independent candidate from this constituency.
Chittagong-11 Bandar-Patenga Constituency, Awami League’s party nominee and current Member of Parliament MA Latif is contesting in the election field, Ward No. 39 General Secretary and Ward Councilor of Awami League Ziaul Haque Sumon.
The present Member of Parliament of Chittagong-12 Patia Constituency, Jatiya Sangsad Whip Samshul Haque Chowdhury has been deprived of party nomination. South District Awami League President and former Upazila Chairman Motaherul Islam Chowdhury has been nominated for this seat. Despite not getting nomination from the party, three-time elected member of parliament from this constituency, Whip Samshul Haque Chowdhury has announced that he will be elected as an independent in the upcoming 12th National Assembly elections. Yesterday in a restaurant in the city, he held an exchange meeting with senior leaders of Patia Upazila and district Awami League, UP chairman, councilors and other party leaders.
Current Member of Parliament Nazrul Islam Chowdhury has received Awami League’s party nomination for Chittagong-14 (Chandnaish-Satkania constituency). Chandnaish Upazila Parishad Chairman Abdul Jabbar Chowdhury did not seek nomination for this constituency. He said he will contest the election as an independent candidate. Local people believe that there is a possibility of a tough competition between these two candidates.
Current Member of Parliament Abu Reza Muhammad Nezamuddin Nadvi has received party nomination of Awami League for Chittagong-15 (Lohagara-Satkania division) constituency. Satkania Upazila Awami League President and Upazila Chairman MA Motaleb was deprived of nomination. He has also declared the election as an independent candidate. Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, the current Member of Parliament of Chittagong-16 Banskhali Constituency, has received the Awami League party nomination. South District Awami League vice-president Mujibur Rahman is contesting as an independent candidate in this seat. South district Awami League leader Abdullah Kabir Liton announced the election as an independent candidate for the same seat.
