The Election Commission (EC) has taken an initiative to train members of the electoral enquiry committees consisting of judicial officers to investigate irregularities centering the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) polls slated for January 7.

The enquiry committee members will be given a daylong training in three phases starting from tomorrow at the Electoral Training Institute (ETI) in the city, said an official handout here today.

A total of 105 members of the inquiry committee, who will perform duties in JS seats no 52 to 156, will take part in the daylong training starting at 9am tomorrow under the first phase while 103 members of the committee, who will perform duties in JS seats no 1 to 51 and 249 to 300, will take part in the training on Tuesday under the second phase.

The remaining 92 members of the committee will participate in the daylong workshop on Wednesday under the third phase at the ETI here.

Earlier, on Saturday, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a gazette notification over formation of the electoral enquiry committees for all 300 constituencies consisting of judicial officials to investigate the pre-poll irregularities and submit report to the EC.

Joint district and session judges, senior assistant judges and district assistant judges of the respective districts have been made members in the committees.

The committees have been tasked with probing polls-related criminal activities, violation of the electoral code of conduct, and any irregularities to hamper free, fair and neutral election.
