A deed writer of the Lalmonirhat sub-registry office and his associates have been accused of assaulting a buyer and his relatives for demanding and refusing to pay the additional fee for the land registry. The charge sheet states that at one stage of the assault, the land registry was forcibly completed by taking an additional 60 thousand taka. In this incident, the buyer Md. Sirajul Islam (58) has filed a written complaint with the Lalmonirhat police station, mentioning the names of three people and 15-20 unknown persons.‎
‎According to the complaint, Md. Sirajul Islam of Lalmonirhat negotiated with his neighbor, deed writer Mokchedul Islam Mostafa (48), to buy land for his brothers. First, 35 thousand taka was paid for all the expenses of the land registry and later 10 thousand taka for rent. Although the final amount of 45 thousand taka was finalized, 15 thousand taka was deposited and the remaining 30 thousand taka was supposed to be paid on the day of the registry.‎
‎The complainant Sirajul Islam, his brother-in-law Shablu Mia and aunt Mrs. Chhaira Begum arrived at the Lalmonirhat sub-registry office on Wednesday, November 4 at approximately 12:45 pm to complete the registry work by paying the remaining 30 thousand taka. But the vendor Mokshedul Islam Mostafa broke the previous agreement and demanded 60 thousand taka instead of 30 thousand taka. When the document writer Mokshedul Islam Mostafa, his associates Anwar Hossain (50) and Bayzid (35) became angry and attacked them. ‎At that time, 15-20 unidentified document writers randomly punched the three of them, injuring them in various parts of the body. During the beating, the complainant’s Punjabi pocket contained 13,600/- taka and his glasses were broken.‎
‎Later, Hamidul Islam, General Secretary of the Registry Office Document Writers’ Association, came forward and saved them.
However, the complainant claims that Abu Bakar Siddique, President of the Registry Office Document Writers’ Association, forcibly took 60,000 taka from them by intimidating and threatening them in various ways and completed the registry work. ‎Subject to a proper investigation of the incident, the victim land buyer Sirajul Islam has requested the police administration to take necessary legal action against the culprits. ‎Meanwhile, the public outrage over such public extortion and beatings at important government offices like the Land Registry has created outrage among the general public.
‎In this regard, Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurunnabi said, “We have received the complaint and will investigate and take legal action.”
