1 killed, 11 injured in bus-truck collision in Gazaria

A man named Azgar Ali (24) was killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Gazaria, Munshiganj. At least 11 bus passengers were injured in the incident. The accident occurred in the Anarpura area of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at around 1:15 pm on Monday (July 7). The deceased, Azgar Ali, was the son of the late Alauddin of Char Falkon village in Kamalnagar upazila of Noakhali district. He was working as a helper on the bus that met with the accident. The names of 11 people among the injured were immediately known. They are Hasan (26), Shah Jalal (60), Ahsan Ullah (55), Zahid (31), Saymon (14), Shahin (35), Sohag (30), Sagirul (50), Abu Said (55), Limon (24), and Halima (52). Among the injured, Saymon, Sohag and Hasan have been sent to Dhaka Medical Hospital for advanced treatment. It is learnt that on Monday around 1:45 pm, a freight truck driver lost control while taking a U-turn through the Anarpura bus stand area and overturned after hitting a road divider. At that time, the driver of a passenger bus of the fast-moving Jonaki Paribahan from Noakhali to Dhaka tried to push the bus to the left to avoid a collision with the truck, but it hit a tree on the side of the road. The front part of the bus was twisted and several people were trapped inside. In the incident, bus helper Azgar Ali died on the spot. Local people and fire service personnel rescued the injured and sent them to the Upazila Health Complex. Dr. Saad Karim, a doctor at the emergency department of Gazaria Upazila Health Complex, said, “Eight people injured in this incident were brought to our hospital. Three of them, Saimon, Sohag and Hasan, are in critical condition. We have sent three of them to Dhaka after giving them primary treatment. The rest are being treated at this hospital.” Regarding the matter, Md. Shawkat Hossain, in-charge of Gazaria Highway Police Outpost, said, “One person was killed and several others were injured in this incident.” The body of the deceased is currently at the police station. The vehicles involved in the accident have been removed from the highway, traffic is normal. Legal action is under process.
