In Baman Danga village of Ward No. 2, allegations of assault, looting and miscarriage of the deceased Mujibur Rahman’s son Obaidur Rahman and his daughter-in-law Selina Begum, who are from the same clan, have been filed against the opponents, Zafar Sheikh, his son Rafiq Sheikh and Zafar Sheikh’s wife Laili Begum, over a previous dispute over shared property inherited from their ancestors.
Later, the victim in the incident, Selina Begum (34), filed a case at the Muksudpur Administrative Court seeking justice.
Case No. – Muksudpur CR 133/2025 Eng. M.D. B: Section 147/448/313/323/324/325/307/379/506(2)/114.
The learned trial court has ordered the Gopalganj PBI to investigate and submit a report.
After receiving information from the victim’s family and complaint sources, several media workers went to the scene of the incident in Bamandanga, Gohala Union on Wednesday (March 12) morning and spoke to the victim’s family, eyewitnesses to the incident, public representatives, and several prominent figures in the area, and obtained the initial truth about the incident.
Selina Begum, the plaintiff and victim in the case, said, “We have a long-standing dispute with the accused over shared property.”
On December 12 last year, at around 1 pm, they first abused my husband Obaidur Rahman in foul language when he was returning to our house with a van loaded with goods through a narrow road. When my husband protested, they beat him up indiscriminately. Hearing my husband’s screams, I quickly went there to save him and stopped him. The accused joined forces and attacked me as well, hitting me on the head with a bamboo stick, pulling me by the hair and throwing me to the ground and kicking me in the lower abdomen. Later, Rafiq Sheikh kicked me indiscriminately in the lower abdomen and hit me with a bamboo stick.
Hearing our screams, local people and relatives rescued us and admitted us to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
A few months after returning home from treatment, I had severe pain in my lower abdomen and abnormal bleeding. I fell ill again and sought medical attention. I had an “abortion.”
My eldest son Sajidur Rahman Sajid (13) is a physically disabled person who studies in a madrasa. My younger son Sahidur Rahman Sahid (9) also studies in a madrasa.
We are very poor and simple people. After the incident, Remarch Sheikh and Shah Alam Munshi, along with prominent people of the area, accused Rafiq Sheikh, for my treatment in this incident. Shah Alam Munshi forcibly paid 5 thousand taka for me. If I objected, they promised to measure our joint property correctly.
But later, the accused started threatening us by not measuring the land.
Since the accused are usury dealers and influential people in the area, I have resorted to the court because the prominent people of the area did not provide a proper solution to this issue.
We were injured in their attack, my unborn child was lost.
Through you, I strongly demand exemplary punishment from the government for the culprits.
It was not possible to provide their statements in the report as the accused Jafar Sheikh, Rafiq Sheikh and Jafar Sheikh’s wife Laili Begum were not found at their homes in this regard.
However, when contacted on the personal number 017…200 used by accused Rafiq Sheikh on his mobile phone, he assured our representative that he would speak to Remarch Sheikh and Shah Alam Munshi and quickly deliver their joint property.
In this regard, Shah Alam Munshi promised our representative over the phone that he would accurately measure the partnership property after Eid with an Amin.
Israfil Sheikh, UP member of Ward 2 of Gohala Union Parishad, acknowledged the truth of the incident of the attack over a land dispute and expressed his opinion in favor of a speedy resolution of the matter.
Police Inspector Md. Jalal Uddin of the Gopalganj Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), the investigating officer of the case, said that we have received the court order from the learned court, but the patient’s medical certificate (MC) has not yet been received from the hospital, and the investigation into this matter is ongoing.
