In the name of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), the importing company could not redeem 90 tons of onion imported from India even in five days. The C&F agent of the importing company said that the release could not be made due to the complexity of the documents. As a result the onions started rotting in transshipment at Benapole land port.
Another 90 tonnes of onions are waiting to enter the Benapole port in the name of the same company. With the subsidy, TCB will sell these onions in different parts of the country at the government price in the open market along with other products through cards to the low income people.

Benapole Port Director Rezaul Karim said that it is not known why the release is not being made. However, through the C&F agent, we came to know that this complication has arisen due to the non-arrival of onion clearance documents from Dhaka. The C&F agent said that these onions can be released tomorrow.
Mustakin Mandal, the Indian truck driver who brought onions, said, “We have been sitting in Benapole for the last five days with three truckloads of onions. The onions are spoiling. No one is coming to unload.”

A C&F agent named Confidence Enterprises is in charge of clearing the onion shipment.
Benapole land port official Hemant Kumar Sarkar said that onion trucks imported from India in the name of TCB arrived at Benapole land port five days ago. These trucks have 90 metric tons of onions. Clearance has not been taken from us yet.
