Bangladesh Tea Estate Staff Association (BTESA) has held a press conference on the demand to amend the gazette published by the Wage Board branch authority of the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
The press conference was held at the association’s central office in Srimangal on Friday (September 1) at noon.
Md. Zakaria Ahmad, president of the association, read the written statement at the press conference. In a written statement, he said, according to the Bangladesh Gazette published by the Ministry of Labor and Employment’s Wage Board Branch on August 10, 2023, the official gazette regarding the wages of workers and employees engaged in the tea industry was published. This final gazette is inconsistent with the interests of the workers and employees and abrogates wages and other benefits, which is contrary to the existing labor laws and the bilateral agreement of the organization with the Bangladesh Tea Council (BCS).
Also present in the press conference were association general secretary Md Aminur Rahman, vice president Sheikh Kawsar Ahmad, Kangkan Bhattacharya, co-editor Alamgir Chowdhury, treasurer Suranjit Das, education, research and cultural secretary Md Mahmudur Rahman Russell and others.
