The party will not participate in city elections either: Mirza Fakhrul
Dhaka/
Although there are many rumors about participating in the upcoming 5 City Corporation, BNP is not participating in the election, said the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Mirza Fakhrul said this after offering flowers at the tomb of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at the initiative of the party’s new committee in Sher Bangla Nagar of the capital on Saturday.
BNP Secretary General said, We have made it clear that we are not going to any local government elections under this government. Especially in city corporation elections, where mayoral elections or commission elections, our party will not have any participation here.
He said, if this government is in power, there will never be free, fair and impartial elections. People will not participate in that election. This is why Awami League wants to mislead the people by saying these things today.
Meanwhile, responding to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s statement that ‘BNP does not participate in elections for fear of defeat’, Mirza Fakhrul said that Awami League does not believe in elections. Awami League does not believe in democracy either.
He said, Awami League especially this government is very conscious of destroying democracy and their old goal is to establish a one-party system of governance. To that end, the election in 2014 was turned into a farce, where people did not go to vote. Similarly, in 2018, they have forced their way into power by voting on the previous night. People did not participate there either. Even in local government elections, people are not participating, they are not going to vote.
At that time BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohail, Party Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Apu, Volunteer Party President SM Jilani, General Secretary Rajib Ahsan were present.
