The White House has urged US citizens in Russia to leave the country “immediately”. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has also made such a call. White House press secretary Karyn Jean-Pierre said in a statement that an American journalist has been arrested and the US government is deeply concerned about the incident. In a statement published on the White House website, US citizens living in and traveling to Russia are asked to leave the country.

US Secretary of State Blinken said in a tweet on Thursday after Russian arrest of Wall Street Journal journalist Ivan Gershkovich (31), “If you are a US citizen living or traveling to Russia, please leave that country immediately.”

Russia’s central intelligence agency FSB says it has detained American journalist Ivan Gershkovich on espionage charges. Evan is now shown to be officially arrested. A Moscow court has ordered him to be kept in prison until May 29. Journalist Ivan has denied the allegations against him. He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison if convicted. Ivan reported on Russia’s economy and military spending in the Wall Street Journal.
