A complaint has been filed against ASI Suman Mia of Ghazaria Police Station who picked up a businessman in Munshiganj’s Ghazaria and kept him in the forest by threatening to crossfire and demand extortion of Tk 2 lakh. The incident took place in Char Baushia area around 9 am on Monday. Later the locals got the news and blocked ASI Suman Mia along with the policemen who were with him. Later they were rescued with the help of local media workers. The accused ASI has been withdrawn and attached to the district police lines.
The victim shop owner Shakeel Faraji (26) is the son of Emdadul Haque Faraji, a Singapore resident of Madhya Baushia village in Baushia union of Ghazaria upazila.
The victim Shakeel Faraji said that after going to his shop named Khaja Ajmeri Varieties Store at Madhya Baushia Bus Stand on Sunday evening, he came to know through ASI Sumon of Ghazaria police station that a drug case has been registered against him at Bandar police station in Narayanganj. At that time, ASI Suman refused to see the documents related to the case. Meanwhile, ASI Suman picked up Shakeel Faraji from the shop in a white colored private car on Monday around 9 am. At that time, apart from the two of them, there was a person identified as SI wearing a T-shirt, Constable Rafiqul and the driver of the car. The driver took the vehicle to a secluded garden in Char Baushia area, adjacent to the Dhaka-Chittagong highway. ASI Suman showed him a pistol and asked him to pay two lakh rupees. He threatened to kill him with crossfire as an accused in a drug case if he did not pay the money he demanded. At that time, when Shakil Faraji refused to pay money, they took away the money and mobile phone with him and tried to teach him handcuffs. Later some locals came forward and rescued him from the policemen.
Regarding the matter, ASI Suman of Ghazaria Police Station said that one of his friends is working at Bandar Police Station in Narayanganj. There is a drug case in Shakeel’s name. That friend came to Ghazaria police station today and they took Shakeel to that garden to talk quietly about the matter.
However, ASI Suman could not give any answer to the question why the accused should be taken to a quiet place to talk to him without arresting him.
Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Mahfuzur Rahman Al Mamun said that ASI Sumon has been closed and attached to the police line as an immediate action after receiving information about such allegations. Besides, the matter is being looked into, if the allegations are found to be true, departmental action will be taken against him.
