Sylhet Representative/
Ignoring the rain, thousands of Sanatan religious devotees flocked to the Taptakunda pilgrimage site located in East Balipara area of Fatehpur (Haripur) Union No. 5 of Jaintapur Upazila to take a bath. On Sunday (March 19), these thousands of people gathered for Ganga bathing tarpan and yajnanushtan.
Every year on the Madhukrishna Troyodashi Tithi of Chaitra, devotees of Sanatan religions gather at this Varuni Mela. Apart from wishing for the peace of the souls of the ancestors, people from children and teenagers to the elderly also rush to Baruni bath in the hope of getting rid of their own merits and all kinds of sins and corruption. Apart from bathing and performing puja, many people have come from far and wide to catch a glimpse of their relatives. However, due to the corona epidemic, that opportunity did not become available to many people for the past two years. As a result, many people came from far away and returned home disappointed. Every year, according to the Hindu tradition, the ancestors bathe and offer water for the souls of the ancestors. It gives peace to their souls. This time too there was no exception. Apart from Gita readings and religious discussions at this historic pilgrimage site, there are various shops in Baruni Mela. Among them, the variety of sugarcane in Haripur market caught everyone’s attention. Although it is restricted only to Sanatan Dharmalamabi, it has now become a festival for everyone.
The Ganga bath which started at 6:25 am on Sunday ended at 9:25 pm. In this, all the Sanatan Dharma followers of the country and abroad participated in the Ganga Bathing Tarpan and Yajnanushtan in the hope of gaining merit. Duryadhan Biswas, President of the Taptakunda Tirtha Stam Management Committee and Pulin Sarkar, General Secretary, thanked the thousands of guests who came.
