Body of schoolgirl hanged after rape and murder: Police

The police have arrested five people in connection with the recovery of the hanging body of a schoolgirl in Phulbaria upazila of Mymensingh. Citing the interrogation of the accused, the police say that eight workers of a brick kiln strangulated the girl after raping her. Then they left the body hanging from the tree and ran away.
On February 25, the police recovered the hanging body of the student from the side of the house in a village of Fulbaria upazila. At first, the local people thought suicide, but after investigation, the police believed that the girl might have died due to gang rape. She was an eighth grader in a local school.
In this incident, the girl’s mother filed a case of rape and murder in the name of five to six unknown persons. Mymensingh District Detective Police investigated the case.
Mymensingh Superintendent of Police Machum Ahmad Bhunya held a press conference at his office on Saturday afternoon after the arrest of five people in the case. It was reported there that the schoolgirl left the room to go to the toilet on the night of 24 February. At that time, he fell under the control of an organized group. After raping the eight, Fahima was strangled to death and hung from a tree. The police have arrested five people involved in the rape and murder. Two of them gave a confessional statement in court on Friday.
Those arrested last Thursday night are Md. Shahjahan, Md. Shahid Mia, Machum Billah, Alamgir Hossain and Russell Mia. In the name of Shahjahan and Shahid Miar, there is a case under Women and Child Abuse Act in Fulbaria police station. Arrested all at Raghunathpur village of Fulbaria upazila.
Superintendent of Police Machum Ahmad Bhunya said, the police investigation revealed that the rapists were eight brick kiln workers. They work during the day but are involved in gang rape and women trafficking at night. Among the arrested accused, Russell Mia and Alamgir Hossain have given a confessional statement in the court. The remaining three have been remanded and are being interrogated.
