In Sylhet, the wife was killed by slitting her throat, the life of the brother

After a century, the court announced Devar’s life imprisonment in the case filed for killing his wife by slitting his throat. Besides, the convicted accused was sentenced to another 6 months of rigorous imprisonment in default of payment of a fine of 50,000 taka.

Additional District and Sessions Judge of Sylhet 4th Court Judge Shayla Sharmin announced the verdict on Wednesday (January 18) afternoon. On Thursday (January 19), the judge of that court Md. Saleh Ahmad confirmed the matter.

The convicted accused is Md. Kibria (45), son of Md. Moin Uddin of Ariz Khan Tila, Bairagibazar area of Sylhet’s Bianibazar police station. Convicted accused Kibria was present in court during the pronouncement of verdict.

According to court and case sources, Khaleda Akhtar (22), daughter of deceased Imam Uddin of Khashir Bheulpar area of Bairagibazar area of Bianibazar police station, was married to Kutub Uddin, brother of accused Kibria, according to Islamic Shariat. Then a son was born in their family. In early 2008, Qutb Uddin moved to Saudi Arabia. After that, Qutub Uddin used to send money to Bhai Kibria to run Khaleda’s family. Kibaria used to give Khaleda money for expenses only in the name of money, which did not cover Khaleda’s household expenses. Khaleda used to have quarrels with her brother-in-law about this. On the night of February 14, 2009, when there was an arbitration meeting, Kibria apologized by holding Khaleda’s feet and promised not to do such things in the future. On February 15, Qutb Uddin sent 9 thousand taka from abroad to Khaleda. Around 9 o’clock that night, Md. Kibria killed Khaleda Akhtar with a knife, cut his upper body and cut his throat, and left his body inside the house. The next day after receiving the information, the Biyanibazar police went to the spot and recovered Khaleda’s body and sent it to Sylhet Osmani Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. In this incident, Khaleda’s brother Zaber Ahmad was the plaintiff, Md. Kibria (22), his mother Acharun Bibi (55), Mochabbir Ari’s son Noor Bax (40), his brother Pakhi Mia (35) and filed a case of genocide in Biyanibazar police station. do of which No. 8 (16-02-2009).

After a long investigation, on May 20 of the same year, the SI of Bianibazar police station Md. Mojibur Rahman Kibria and his mother Acharun Bibi filed a charge sheet (Charge-60) in the court and the court started the trial of the case from July 29, 2010. During the pendency of the case, the charge-sheeted accused Acharun Bibi died. After a long hearing and the testimony of 11 witnesses, the court found the defendant Md. Kibria guilty under Section 302 of the Penal Code 1860 and awarded him the said sentence.

Additional PP Advocate Dia Yasmin and Assistant APP Advocate Md. Abdus Sattar for the state and Advocate Mohammad Muhibur Rahman for the accused handled the case.
