Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has achieved everything possible in his career. However, he has not yet touched the World Cup trophy. Captain Messi started the Qatar World Cup with that dream. The 35-year-old star is one match away from getting the dream title after passing the group stage, second round, quarter and semi-finals.
Akashi-Sadara will enter the field with the mission of winning the World Cup on the final stage next Sunday. Before that, Messi reminded once again that the next match is going to be his last match in the World Cup.
Taking Argentina to the final for the second time in his career, the captain said, ‘Sunday’s final is going to be my last match, that’s for sure. The next World Cup is still years away. I don’t think I’ll be there. And so it would be best to end it like this.’
Although Messi said before the World Cup, this is his last. However, coach Lionel Scaloni expressed optimism that the Argentine captain will play for many more days. But Messi’s words are clear, he will not be seen in the next World Cup.
He bids farewell to the World Cup by playing on the final stage. He is very happy with such an achievement. According to Messi, ‘It is great to end the World Cup career with the final. I am very happy to have achieved this. What I have experienced in this World Cup, what people have experienced, the way the people of the country are celebrating it, is quite exciting.’
“I feel great,” said the Argentine forward after the semi-final win over Croatia. The victory was not easy for us. We were tired to compete with them, but from there the team gained new energy. Because we know this is an important match for us. We knew they would have a lot of the ball, because they have some great players in midfield. We were also well prepared.’
Promising to play their best to win the final, Messi said, ‘The first match was a tough shock, but we mentally got stronger from there. We will play the last match of the World Cup, which is what we wanted. This is Argentina’s sixth World Cup final, where I will play in the second. Hopefully it will end the other way. We are ready to give our all, do whatever it takes to win. This time we want to make it happen.’
