General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader called upon American Ambassador Peter Haas not to spoil the friendship with Bangladesh by making ‘unwanted comments’ about the election and court building.
He said this at the first preparatory meeting of the 22nd National Conference of the Awami League at the party president’s political office in Dhanmondi, capital, on Friday morning.
Addressing the US ambassador, Obaidul Quader said, “Do not destroy friendship.” Bangladesh always wants to keep friendship with America.
“We saw the face of American democracy on January 6,” Quader said, pointing out that “people have died in US elections too.” Till date one side has not accepted the result. Election fraud is not only said in Bangladesh. This word is now used in America. Five people also died. Congress infested, we saw how Nancy Pelosi was hiding.
Before this, in a statement on Thursday, the day after BNP leaders and activists clashed with the police in Nayapaltan of the capital, US Ambassador Peter Haas said, “We are concerned about reports of intimidation and political violence in Dhaka.”
At the same time, the US ambassador urged everyone to respect the rule of law and refrain from violence, harassment and intimidation.
Besides, Peter Haas expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the clash with the police in Paltan and called for an investigation into the incidents of violence.
