The court has postponed the date of submission of investigation report in the murder case of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi to July 6. The investigation report of the case was scheduled to be submitted on Thursday. But as no report was submitted, the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate fixed the next day. The date of submission of report was postponed 80 times.
Earlier, RAB submitted a progress report to the High Court on March 2 last year. The report said two unidentified men were involved in the killings. Their DNA was found to be similar to the cloth worn by Sagar-Runi.
Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Maasranga Television and Meherun Runi, senior reporter of ATN Bangla were brutally murdered on the night of February 10, 2012 in a rented house in the capital’s West Rajabazar. Two were stabbed to death. Their mutilated bodies were recovered the next morning.
After the incident, Runi’s brother Nowsher Alam Roman filed a murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The case was first investigated by Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station. The investigation was then handed over to the Metropolitan DB Police as a sensational murder case. After more than two months of investigation, DB failed to unravel the mystery. Later, on April 18, 2014, the High Court directed the RAB to investigate the murder case. There are eight accused in the case including Rooney’s alleged friend Tanvir Rahman.
