With the lease of Nachole pond There have been allegations of harassment

Md.Ibrahim babu, Nachol (Chapainawabganj): Leaseholders have complained to the police about harassment over the lease of government khas pond at Nachole in Chapainawabganj. The Tulkalam incident took place with a pond in Pukuriapara mouza. Akbar Ali, son of Abdul Karim of Panditpur upazila, said the 1.60 (acre) pond of 6 dags of Pukuriapara mouza was leased by Jalmahal committee in favor of Batigram Fishermen Cooperative Society Ltd. of Shibganj upazila.

The Jalmahal Committee explained the pond to the lessee. On August 2, 10/12 people, including Ekramul Haque, Faruk and a local occupant of Ramchandrapur Hat in Chapainawabganj Sadar, beat Akbar Ali’s brother Monirul to death in Nezampur Bazar. Akbar Ali lodged a complaint at Nachol police station on August 3. On July 25, the lease committee leased the pond to people one kilometer away, ignoring the demands of the residents of 460 dags of Mohammadpur mouza in Rajbari Saptala of Nachol union of the upazila.

Meanwhile, Rezaul Karim Biswas, son of late Ainal Haque Biswas of Kendua village in the upazila, claimed that the 94-spot pond in Kendua mouza was his ancestral property and issued a restraining order to keep it off the khas list. But the Jalmahal Committee included the pond in the list of leases as khas.

A legal battle is going on between the two sides over this. Nachol Police Station Officer-in-Charge Selim Reza Chowdhury said, “I have received a complaint of beating of Akbar Ali’s brother. Action will be taken after investigation.” Sabiha Sultana, president of the Upazila Jalmahal Management Committee and Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said that if a person illegally occupies a leased pond, legal action will be taken if the legal leaseholder complains.
