Victims of salt water are happy with PM’s gift of quality food items, demand sustainable dam

 Khulna Correspondent: The distribution of food items called ‘Prime Minister’s Gift’ allocated by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief is underway among the people of different areas affected by the weakening of the embankment of the river due to the impact of Yash in Koyra, Khulna.  Following this, under the overall management of the upazila administration, ‘Prime Minister’s Gift’ was distributed among the victims of Deara Paschimpara (Madia) area with the help of the voluntary organization Paschim Deara Ekta Sangha at Berer Khal in Deara of Maharajpur Union at 5:30 pm on Tuesday.
Imam of West Deara Mosque Md. Nazrul Islam, businessman Md. Mofizul Islam Gazi, Awami League activist Aziz Gazi, Saiful Alam Lantu, founder of the organization journalist Tarikul Islam, acting president Md. Mostafizur Rahman, general secretary Md. Al Amin Hossain, organizer editor Editor Khalid Hasan Bappi, Co-Organizing Secretary Md. Taibur Rahman and others were present at the occasion.The helpless people are very satisfied to get improved and quality food in the dry food bags distributed.  Md. Mujahid Mali, a tea shopkeeper, went to express his feelings after opening the gift packet of the Prime Minister.  I am very happy to be here today. ‘He thanked the Prime Minister with prayers.
 Another recipient, Ziaur Rahman Tutul, said, “I never thought I would get such good quality food.”  We have never seen such improved relief in our village through such a fair distribution.  He expressed his gratitude to the concerned people including the Prime Minister.
 Hazrat Ali, the driver of the van, said, “We have never seen such a big and delicious Chira being sold anywhere.”  Thanks to our mother Janani Prime Minister.  Thanks also to MP Babu Bhai and UNO Sir.
 Widow Rahela Khatun said, I am very happy.  Many people give me relief because I don’t have one, but no one gives it so well.
 Day laborer Akram Hossain said, “I have received all the goods including rice, oil and chira very well.”
 Not only Mujahid, Tutul, Hazrat, Rahela and Akram, 35 people who received gifts are very happy to get improved food.  Everyone prayed for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and expressed their gratitude.  He also demanded the construction of sustainable dams on priority basis in all risky places including Dashhalia in Koira.
 Each affected and helpless family in the area has been given 10 kg of high quality miniket rice, 2 kg of chira, 2 kg of lentil pulses, 1 kg of sugar, 1 kg of soybean oil, 1 kg of salt and 1 packet of noodles.
 Sagar Hossain Saikat, Upazila Project Implementation Officer, said that in the second phase, one thousand sacks of very good quality food items have been allocated for Koyra.  Their distribution is ongoing.  Earlier, in the first phase, I was allotted seven hundred and fifty sacks.  Besides, 5 metric tons of rice, dry food worth Tk 1.5 lakh, baby food worth Tk 1 lakh, cow feed worth Tk 1 lakh and cash of Tk 3.25 lakh have been distributed.
 Animesh Biswas, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said that the Upazila administration will continue to distribute other government relief items including gifts of the Hon’ble Prime Minister among the people affected.
 It may be mentioned that the Director of Disaster Management Department (Relief Branch) Md. Anisur Rahman inaugurated the food distribution program as the chief guest at the Upazila Parishad premises on June 4 at 5 pm.  Koyra Upazila Chairman SM Shafiqul Islam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Animesh Biswas, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Azizul Haque Joarddar, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Sagar Hossain Saikat and other local people’s representatives were present during the inauguration.
