A case has been registered against 21 people in Hakimpur upazila of Dinajpur for torturing two students on suspicion of stealing goats. Union Parishad member Nazmul Hossain has been arrested in the incident. Others are being arrested. Hakimpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khairul Basar Shamim confirmed the matter on Saturday afternoon.
The OC said Arif and Sourav, two students of Banglahili Pilot High School in Hakimpur Upazila, went to the local Mongla Bazaar on a motorcycle on Friday morning. As they stood for a while next to a goat on the side of the road, the locals chased them on suspicion of being thieves. When they tried to flee in fear, the locals detained them. At that time, the locals, including the local UP members, tied their hands to the trees and tortured them. The video of that torture went viral on Facebook. Seeing that, two students were rescued from the spot and admitted to the hospital. UP member Nazmul Hossain was arrested in the incident on Friday night.
The OC said Monirul Islam, the father of the victim student Arif, had filed the case as a plaintiff. Attempts are being made to arrest others after watching the video. No one involved in the incident will be spared.
