Nangalkot ( Cumilla) Correspondent: The situation in Nangalkot has taken a terrible turn. In villages of 16 unions including Nangalkot municipality, people of different ages are flocking to the Upazila Health Complex for corona test for cold, flu, cough and shortness of breath. Every day more than a hundred people are taking sample tests at the Corona booth of the Upazila Health Complex. On Saturday, 113 people gave samples for corona test. Sample tests are detecting corona positive in 20 to 50 people every day. In the last two months alone, 500 people have tested positive for corona.
There is uneasiness among the patients who have been tested for corona symptoms as they have not received any report within 3/4 days of taking the corona test sample. According to the Upazila Health Complex, 1,218 people have tested positive for corona so far. 673 people have recovered. 300 patients are undergoing treatment in home isolation and 12 patients in ICU and Corona ward of Upazila Health Complex are undergoing treatment. So far 26 people have died. In addition, out of official accounts, there are daily reports of multiple deaths in different villages with corona positive and symptoms.
Enayet Ullah Majumder of East Chandpur village in Periya Union of the upazila died at the Upazila Health Complex on Friday night. On the same night, Mojibur Rahman (60) of Mantli Madhyampara in Raikot North Union died. Relatives of coronary heart patients are returning to the Upazila Health Complex, Laksam and Comilla without getting beds. Many are getting ICU beds of Upazila Health Complex and Comilla Medical College Hospital through negotiations. For many, the ordinary beds of the corona unit of the hospital are not enough. Again, many patients are unable to get treatment in private hospitals due to lack of money and are returning home to die.
On July 29, three prominent people were reported to have died in Corona. They are Ishaq Mia, 60, former commander of Nangalkot Upazila Muktijoddha, Haripur village of the municipality, Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan (102) and Fulir, 102, of Baraswangish village of Periya Union, father of Dr. Jahangir Hossain Bhuiyan, head of the surgery department of Comilla Medical College Hospital. Maulana Mir Hossain of Chhupua village in Raikot North Union of the former Mohaddes and Upazila died. Besides, Aman Ullah Majumder of Kaiya village of Pedia union of the upazila died. Jasim, 24, son of Abdul Latif of Atiabari village in Adra North union of the upazila and Abdus Sobhan, 60, of Shampur village in Bangadda union of the upazila died on July 30. In this way, many people are dying every day in any village due to corona symptoms or corona positive.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Lamia Saiful and Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Tanjim Sohania in collaboration with the police have continued regular raids in various markets including Nangalkot Municipal Bazar to enforce strict lock down and abide by health rules. Lockdown is also penalizing violators.
Meanwhile, various voluntary organizations in Nangalkot have continued to provide free oxygen cylinders for corona affected patients, burial, distribution of masks, awareness miking, ticker registration and food aid among the distressed. Among them are Zahirul Islam, a student of Dhaka University, Sajjad Hossain Rahat, President of Taqwa Foundation Nangalkot Branch, Kovid-19 Battali Expatriate Welfare Forum. Various organizations including Lotus Kamal Oxygen Bank are working.
“We have so far provided free oxygen services to 61 corona patients, distribution of masks to 10,000 people and public awareness campaigns, distribution of food aid to 1,600 helpless poor day laborers, and telemedicine services to 850 people,” said Zahirul Islam, convener of “Sanshak”. , 94 unemployed middle class families, providing food, cash and gift items to 60 indigent students, setting up a collection of corona sample booths funded by the upazila administration and running a free vaccine registration campaign to provide vaccines.
Sajjad Hossain Rahat, president of the Nangalkot branch of the Taqwa Foundation, said, “So far, we have provided free oxygen services to 31 people, buried the bodies of 23 people who died of corona and symptoms and distributed 10 kg of rice among 213 distressed families.”
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Dev Das Dev said the situation in Nangalkot, like in the rest of Bangladesh, has deteriorated. Every day 20 to 50 corona positive are being identified. So far, 1,217 people have been identified as corona positive. 673 people have recovered. There are 300 people undergoing treatment in home isolation. 12 people are undergoing treatment in ICU and Corona ward of Upazila Health Complex. So far 26 people have died. In particular, from 28 May to 30 July, 500 corona have been identified as positive. Dr. Dev Das Dev urged the locals to wear masks, register quickly to survive and not go out unnecessarily.
