Khagrachari Correspondent: Biraj Moni, a founding president of the UPDF (Democratic) from Durchhari area of Mahalchhari upazila in Khagrachhari, is the main accused in the murder of Tapan Jyoti Chakma alias Burma and a member of the UPDF, a regional armed terrorist organization led by Prasit Bikash KhisaChakma, 38, was detained along with a Chinese Nine MM pistol and four rounds of ammunition.An operation team from the Mahalchhari zone under the Khagrachhari region of the army arrested Biraj Moni Chakma in a raid around 3:30 am on Monday (August 9).
It is learned that the army’s Mahalchhari zone has arrested a separatist armed terrorist named Biraj Moni Chakma in a raid in the Durchhari army camp area under the Mahalchhari zone on the basis of secret intelligence information. Biraj Moni Chakma has long been accused of being involved in extortion, murder and rape in the Durchhari area.
A Chinese pistol, a magazine, four rounds of ammunition, a collection receipt book, a mobile phone and a personal bag were recovered from Biraj Moni Chakma after his arrest. After the security forces conducted a search operation, the separatist terrorist was brought to the Mahalchhari army camp and interrogated. He was later handed over to Mahalchhari police station for further legal action.
After interrogation, it was learned that the arrested Biraj Mani Chakma was the main accused in the 2016 murder of Tapan Jyoti Chakma alias Burma, the founding president of the UPDF (Democratic), which is still ongoing. Besides, he is the accused in the case of Naniyarchar GO No. 114/18 of Rangamati, Section 146/109/324/327/307/302/34, Panel Code 180.
