Abdullah Al Mamun, Chapainawabganj: Railway Minister Adv. Nurul Islam Sujan MP has assured that the issue of converting Rahanpur railway station in Gomstapur upazila of Chapainawabganj into a full-fledged railway port will be discussed. He said the issue was bilateral between the two countries. This will be discussed in Dhaka. The minister gave this assurance in the face of their demand for the people gathered at the platform after visiting Rahanpur station yesterday afternoon. He said the present government is a government of development. The government is making continuous development in various sectors across the country.
Rail communication is one of them. The government is working to alleviate the manpower crisis of the railways and to introduce rail connectivity in all the districts. Rahanpur is an important railway station in the country. Rahanpur station is important for Bangladesh-India-Nepal-India rail trade route. India is interested in rail transit and trade. The minister further said that arrangements will be made to start all the trains from Rahanpur on various routes due to coronation before the month of Ramadan. In addition, additional freight bogies for transporting vegetables and other crops will be added to all trains traveling at Rahanpur station. Farmers will benefit from this.
Responding to a question from reporters, the minister said a double line would be constructed up to Amanura in Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila in future. Meanwhile, double lines are being constructed on various routes including Rajshahi-Abdullahpur, Ishwardi-Joydevpur, Khulna-Darshana, he said, adding that railways are being connected to the Padma Bridge. A separate dual gauge railway bridge is being constructed over the river Jamuna. The minister said the government is working for the development of integrated communication of the country through rail, road, river, sea and air. The Minister said the Prime Ministers of the two countries would inaugurate another passenger train from Dhaka to Siliguri, India on March 26 to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence.
