The bus entered the tree: 8 killed, 25 injured

At least 8 people were killed when a speeding passenger bus lost control and collided with a tree at Wazirpur in Barisal. At least 25 others were injured.

The accident took place at around 5.30 am on Sunday at Bamrail in Wazirpur on the Barisal-Dhaka highway. The identities of the dead were not immediately known.

The injured are being treated at various clinic hospitals in Barisal.

The bus was going from Dhaka to Bhandaria in Pirojpur.

According to locals, the speeding Jamuna Line passenger bus lost control and collided with a tree at Bamrail near Sanuhar bus stand on Sunday morning and crashed into a tree. At that time 8 people died on the spot. At least 20/25 more people were injured in this incident. Besides, it was not known how many passengers were in the transport. However, the death toll is expected to rise further.

Meanwhile, two units of Barisal Fire Service at Gournadi and Wazirpur reached the spot and started the rescue operation.

In this regard, Barisal Fire Service Unit Leader. Jahangir told CNBangladesh that the passenger bus got into a tree. Fire service personnel cut the bus and cut the seats and recovered eight bodies so far. At the same time, he said, the death toll could rise further. Many are at risk of becoming crippled.

Confirming the death, Wazirpur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Arshad said the injured were rescued and sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and Wazirpur Health Complex. He said one of the dead was a child. Rescue work was continuing till the writing of this report.
