Shahidul Islam, Khagrachhari: Road communication between Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachhari was cut off due to landslide in 15 km area of Marisha Dighinala Road in Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati.
The landslide happened on Wednesday (August 11) morning.
Although CNG-powered motorbikes were plying on one side of the road due to the landslide, the movement of trucks, buses and other large vehicles was stopped. However, no casualties were reported in the landslide.
Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shariful Islam said a large part of the hill had collapsed on the road due to excessive rain and hill slope at night.
Meanwhile, Sabuj Chakma, sub-divisional engineer of Khagrachhari Roads and Urban Development Department, said that they have been instructed to send people with bulldozers immediately after receiving the news. I hope the road communication will be normal within three hours.
Every year during the monsoon season, landslides occur in Chittagong and three hill districts. Due to the soft soil of the hills, landslides occur in some areas due to natural re-cutting of the hills. There are many families living in the foothills who are living at the risk of their lives.
