Survey work started to prevent erosion of Mahananda river

Abdullah Al Mamun: The water level in the Mahananda River is rising rapidly due to the monsoon rains and the upstream slope. At the same time river erosion has started in Debinagar area of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila. This year, several crop lands and various establishments are expected to be destroyed due to river erosion. Last Thursday, the Water Development Board started survey work to control the erosion by inspecting the eroded areas of the river Mahananda. Two survey works of Chapainawabganj Water Development Board have started from last Friday morning.

According to the concerned, erosion on the banks of the river is a natural and normal phenomenon according to the type of soil. Fragmentation prevention is possible by building infrastructure to prevent erosion using researched data. Survey work has also started to control the erosion of the river Mahananda. A design will be made based on the survey data. Work will start quickly to prevent erosion as per the prescribed design.

AKM Shariful Alam, Chief Engineer, North-West Region, Water Development Board, visited the eroded area last Thursday. Rajshahi Region Supervising Engineer Shafiqul Alam, Chapainawabganj Water Development Board Executive Engineer Mehedi Hasan, Sub-Divisional Engineer (Acting) Moyez Uddin and other officials were present on the occasion.

Water Development Board Sub-Divisional Engineer (Acting) M Moyez Uddin said AKM Shariful Alam, Chief Engineer in the North-West Region of the Water Development Board, visited the eroded area of the Mahananda River. At the end of the inspection, he directed to take immediate action to prevent erosion. Under his direction, survey work has also started to control the erosion of the Mahananda river from Friday morning. A design will be made based on the survey data. He hoped that work would start soon to prevent erosion as per the prescribed design.
