Md Shahadat Hossain: Various organizations including Railway Workers League and CBS are in a confrontation with the authorities over the construction of a hospital on the abandoned land of the railway in the CRB area of Chittagong city.
Because illegal installations have been set up outside the allotted houses of the railways. Many people are trading by renting a house.Authorities are launching an operation after December 15 to oust them. However,no decision has been taken yet on the establishment of an ashram for the followers of traditional religions and a freedom fighter parliament at the site designated for the hospital.
It can be seen on the spot that the authorities have put up a big billboard with the details of the project in front of the area designated for the hospital.Signboards have also been put up on the banners of Labor League and other organizations. And a rickshaw garage has been built at the end of the field next to the billboard.
On the other hand, several shops have been built at the entrance under the banner of Muktijoddha Sangsad.Behind this is Sri Sri Radhakrishna Nitai Gaur Bandhukunj Ashram.
It is learned that the state-of-the-art 500-bed hospital and 100-seat medical college are in public-private partnership (PPP).Bangladesh Railway is in charge of the executive body and United Chittagong Hospital Limited will implement it.An agreement was signed between them on March 18 this year.
After that, an initiative was taken to evacuate the legal residents of the place.New homes are allocated. But even after such a decision of the authorities, many did not leave their homes.
The allottees, however, say that the allotment of the railway colony has been canceled and the new place given to the residents here is uninhabitable.Railway Hospital Branch General Secretary of the Workers League.Sohail said,”We have already vacated three houses. The rest will be emptied in stages.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the allotted houses,he said,”The new houses given to us are not suitable for living. There is water throughout the rainy season. There are many problems with it. That is why we are strongly demanding the allocation of suitable housing.
Railway authorities, however, say that according to the list, there are houses allotted for only eight families. But more than 50 families are living illegally outside them.Calling the allegations baseless, Ahsan Jabir, project director and additional chief engineer (bridges) for the Eastern Railway, said,”We have eight families on the list.
But 195 houses are empty against them. They have built illegal houses and rented them instead of railways. So the house is procrastinating.
Ahsan Jabir, project director, said work on the hospital would start from February next year.In the second step, 3.58 acres will be explained.Letters have already been given to those who have been allotted in Railway Hospital Colony. The deadline is December 15.If not,the eviction campaign will be carried out.
Meanwhile, under the pressure of various organizations, the railway authorities have not yet reached a decision on the Muktijoddha Sangsad and the ashram.Mahbub-ul-Karim,divisional real estate officer of the railways, said,”No final decision has been taken yet on these two installations.
“However, we have told the concerned people to talk to GM Sir and let them come to a decision. If necessary,he can seek permission to allocate elsewhere as per the policy.
Asked if there was any discussion with the railway authorities,Sheikh Lokman Hossain, acting president of the Bangladesh Railway Workers League, said,”There was a discussion with the previous GM (Sardar Shahadat Ali).He said,”Since our paperwork is fine,we will arrange it elsewhere.”
