A discussion meeting and an earthquake and firefighting exercise were held at Srimangal in Moulvibazar on the occasion of International Disaster Mitigation Day and 50th anniversary of CPP, a joint venture of Aloy-Aloy Project and Upazila Administration (Disaster Management Branch).
On Wednesday (October 13), a discussion meeting was held in the hall room of Srimangal Upazila Parishad to mark the day with the theme “Promise of Mujib Year, Strengthen Disaster Preparedness”.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nazrul Islam presided over the function and Srimangal addressed the function as the chief guest. Acting Chairman of the Upazila Parishad Mitali Dutta.
During the earthquake and firefighting exercise, the Station Officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Unit addressed the gathering on what to do in case of fire and earthquake and what precautions should be taken. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer participated in the exercise using fire extinguishers. Besides, officials of various departments of Upazila Parishad, project coordinator of Aloy Alo project Emdadul Haque, project officers and community promoters also participated in the earthquake and fire fighting exercise.
It is to be noted that Aloy Alo project is being implemented by Child Fund Korea in collaboration with Educo Bangladesh through 30 tea gardens in different unions of Srimangal and Kamalganj upazilas and four non-governmental organizations (MCIDA, BTS, Idea and Prastesh) in 2 haor areas. This project is working with the backward students, adolescents, youth and women in various tea gardens and haor areas for the early development of the child, pre-primary education and improving their quality of life.
