Special Representative :
Information and Broadcasting Minister and Joint General Secretary of the Awami League. Hassan Mahmood said that some foreign media are serving purposeful false and untrue news against the country and the government, which is never desirable.
He was responding to a question from reporters after a financial aid distribution program for affected journalists in Rangpur by joining online from his official residence in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
The information minister said that some online portals are operated from abroad, they are constantly criticizing the country, spreading propaganda and often spreading rumors. At the same time, some well-known foreign media also deliberately published false and untrue reports against the country and the government.
Referring to some foreign media programs, especially the ‘phone in’ program. Hassan Mahmood said they plan in advance to bring in phone calls from people who speak out against the government and to interview certain people who are known to be anti-government. Some of us were interviewed to make that report credible. But their main goal is to publish a report and criticize the government. It can’t be the work of any good media.
Responding to another question from reporters on BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s remark that “the government is establishing a reign of corruption”, the information minister said Bangladesh was a five-time world champion in corruption and a joint champion when the BNP was in power. They do not like to speak out against corruption.
Zafar Wazed, Managing Director of PJB, Asif Ahsan, Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur, Mahabubur Rahman, President of Rangpur Press Club, Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, President of District Awami League and others spoke online at the check distribution function organized by Rangpur District Administration and Press Club.
