Six people, including a woman, were killed when a pickup truck fell into a ditch

At Gurudaspur, a Dhaka-bound passenger pickup lost control and fell into a ditch, killing six people and injuring five others.

The tragic accident took place in the toll plaza area near Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway around 1.30 pm on Sunday. The dead included four men and two women. At the time of writing, police have confirmed the identities of the five.

The deceased have been identified as Afnan, 52, son of Shamsed Ali of Philipnagar village in Kushtia’s Daulatpur and his wife Arifa Begum, 40, Shahidul Islam, 25, son of Naharul Islam, Abdullah Al Mamun, 33, son of Matiar Rahman of Satsail village in Tangail Sadar and Saharbai of Gangni village in Meherpur. Jahanim’s son Jasim Uddin (42). The identity of the other victim was not found.

Upon receiving the news of the accident, Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed and Superintendent of Police Liton Kumar Saha visited the spot. Superintendent of Police Liton Kumar Saha said the Dhaka-bound pickup truck picked up passengers from Bonpara and Baraigram and left for Dhaka. Later, when the pickup reached the nearby toll plaza area, it lost control while overtaking and fell into a nearby ditch. Five people were killed and five others injured on the spot. Later, fire service personnel and locals came and rescued the injured and admitted them to the hospital.

Officer-in-charge of Gurudaspur Police Station Abdur Razzak said the injured were rescued and admitted to Gurudaspur Upazila Health Complex. One of them died at the hospital.

Mozaffar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bonpara Highway Police Outpost, said many people were moving in the lockdown. We can’t control them. In many ways they are reaching their destination.

Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed said construction workers were not allowed to move from one place to another during the lockdown. But they were going to cover the eyes of our officers.
