Kalapara (Patuakhali) Correspondent: The Sikder Resort and Villas Authority is loading trucks with sand from the beach adjacent to Kuakata National Park. The sand workers said that their own cattle farm is being filled with this sand from the beach. This sand is being cut in Birdarpe without any permission. The local union land office knows nothing about sand cutting. Although there is a ban on taking sand from the beach, the Sikdar resort authorities are not abiding by the ban. The beach area is at risk due to sand cutting. The locals are shocked by such activities of Sikdar Resort Authority. According to them, the national parks including Kuakata beach are at risk due to sand erosion.
The beach area will be at greater risk as the Sikder resort authorities cut the sand. The Sikdar Resort Authority, an influential investor in Kuakata, has been accused of occupying government land near the beach and constructing concrete structures, but the district administration is not taking action against them for mysterious reasons. No one is reluctant to speak out against this influential investor. Locals said on condition of anonymity that the administration remained silent even though the Sikder Resort and Villas authorities had filled the trucks with government land and cut off the sand. When we went to the spot on Wednesday afternoon, it was seen that the logo of Sikder Resort was being filled with sand in the combined truck.
Truck drivers Russell and Rafiq, who are engaged in sand mining, said they were cutting sand at the behest of an engineer at Sikder Resort. Russell and Rafiq added that Sikdar Resort Authority also has land in the middle of the sea. No statement was received from Sikder Resort authorities in this regard. In this regard, Kalapara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abu Hasnat Mohammad Shahidul Haque said, the sand cutting of Sikdar Resort Authority has been stopped by sending the tehsildar of Mahipur Union Land Office. Even then, if they take sand from the beach, legal action will be taken against them.
