Munayem Khan, Netrokona: Education activities are being hampered due to the slow pace of development work of Sheikh Hasina University. Although land acquisition has been completed, infrastructural development is still out of sight.
A meeting of the National Economic Committee (ECNEC) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on November 07, 2018 approved Tk 2,637.40 crore for Sheikh Hasina University in Netrokona. Administrative and academic activities are being carried out on a temporary basis in the building of the Local Technical Training Center (TTC).
The housing demand of the students is being met with the rent of the residential building. Education enthusiasts feel that without the development of infrastructure, it will not be possible to accelerate the basic activities of the university. It is learned that the project was supposed to end on December 31, 2021, but the first tender was called on December 31, 2020. Out of 43 tenders, only four e-tenders were invited for the infrastructural development of Sheikh Hasina University in phases. Of this, Tk 240 crore has been earmarked for land development, Tk 118 crore for construction of administrative buildings, Tk 114 crore for academic buildings and Tk 56 crore for schools and colleges.
According to reliable sources, the tender committee has already sent a document signed by Sheikh Hasina University Vice Chancellor Rafiq Ullah Khan to the Ministry of Education after evaluating the tender process for the infrastructural development.
Documents signed by the Hon’ble Secretary, Deputy Minister and Minister from the Ministry of Education have been sent to the Cabinet Division for approval by the Cabinet Committee on Procurement. At present, it is not possible to present the original document as the extension document has not been submitted to the Cabinet. If the development work of Sheikh Hasina University is not started in this financial year, the locals think that the expected development in the university will slow down further.
They think that if the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Minister of Education pay special attention to these issues, the infrastructural development of the university will be visible very soon.
Netrokona Deputy Commissioner Kazi said. Abdur Rahman said, Sheikh Hasina the land acquisition process of the university has been completed with transparency. money checks are being distributed among the owners of officially acquired lands in phases.
