His home is in India, he works in Sylhet. Such allegations are against a senior official of the Roads and Highways Department. Even though he is a citizen of another country, the question has arisen as to how he is working under a responsible ministry of the Bangladesh government.
The issue was raised at a meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Sunday. Committee President. Ekabbar Hossain presided over the meeting.
The meeting was informed that the allegation was raised in the parliamentary committee against Tushar Kanti Saha, Additional Chief Engineer, Sylhet Zone, Department of Roads and Highways. Although he was in Sylhet, he almost came to India illegally.
There are also allegations of corruption against the officer. The parliamentary committee tasked the secretary of the road transport and highways department to look into the matter. The secretary has investigated with another joint secretary. Tushar Kanti Saha was not convicted in that investigation, nor was he released again.
The parliamentary committee did not take cognizance of the report as it was thoroughly investigated. Therefore, the secretary has been asked to conduct a new investigation. If the secretary is not available, the parliamentary committee has asked to investigate at least someone with the status of additional secretary. The secretary has been asked to submit a full report in the next 10 days.
At the end of the meeting, the President of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges. Ekabbar Hossain said, “Complaints have been raised. The matter can be investigated. How a government official lives in another country with an illegal passport can be investigated. We have spoken of investigation again to know the correct information.
Ignoring the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Tushar Kanti Saha, Additional Chief Engineer, Roads and Urban Development Department, acted as the director of five projects.
When he started talking about the status of his project at the progress review meeting of 58 development projects in Sylhet division in February 2019, the planning minister asked, how did you become a PD of 5 projects? In reply he said, this is how it is going on sir. Reacting angrily, the minister said it could not be done if the Prime Minister’s instructions were followed.
Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Department (IMED) Secretary Abul Mansur. Fayez Ullah said that according to the rules, there should be a PD in a project costing more than Tk 50 crore. So how did you become the PD of 5 projects costing two and a half thousand crore rupees? Tushar Kanti Saha could not give any answer.
The projects in charge of Tushar Kanti Saha are: Baniachang-Ajmeriganj Road Development, Airport Bypass Intersection-Lalbagh-Salutikar-Companyganj-Bhoraganj Road National Highway Upgradation, Important Regional Highways Upgradation (Sylhet Zone), Sylhet City Ropan Upgradation of Setu Ghat road to four lanes, development of road from Jaint to Jaflong and upgrading of district highways in Sylhet.
