Md. Latiful Azam,Kishoreganj(Nilphamari): A relief bridge has been constructed on both sides of Bhangakhal in Ward No.1 of Matial Para village on the way to Hazirhat from Manthana Government Primary School in Putimari Union of Kishoreganj Upazila of Nilphamari. A useless bridge without roads is not bringing any benefit to the people.
According to the Upazila Project Implementation Office, under the bridge and culvert construction program funded by the Disaster and Relief Management Department, a 40-foot bridge was constructed on the canal of Ward No.1 of Manthana Matial Para in Putimari Union of the upazila at a cost of Tk 31 lakh.
The bridge over the broken canal has a name road on one side but no road from that bridge to Putimari Hindupara on the other side. The bridge that has been built for the benefit of the farmers is not benefiting the farmers as there is no road. Talking to the villagers on the spot on Wednesday, it was learned that about 8,000 people live in Matial Para and Hindupara villages of Putimari Union of the upazila. Most of them are farmers.
They make a living by producing crops on the land around the canal. No vehicles are running due to lack of roads. There is no end to the misery of transporting paddy, potato, maize, mustard and other crops from the field at double cost due to lack of roads. There is no road to walk on. In the dry season, you have to walk on the bridge in any way, but in the rainy season, you have to trample on the water from one end to the other.
Despite the construction of the long-awaited bridge, the villagers have to go through years of misery. They demanded speedy construction of roads on both sides of the bridge. Saber Hossain, Shafiul and Abdul Quddus of the village expressed their anger and said that the UP chairman and the concerned authorities have no problem in constructing roads on both sides of the bridge. If the government builds connecting roads on both sides of the bridge, we will benefit a lot.
In this regard, Putimari UP Chairman Abu Sayem Liton said, the road will be repaired if the government allocation.
Kishoreganj Upazila Project Implementation Officer Abu Hasnat Sarkar said no bridge has been built without roads, if there is no road, the road will be repaired by inspecting the area.
