Rape of a young girl in MC dormitory : Chargesheet filed against 8 people

Arun Sarkar, Bureau Chief Sylhet: Police have filed a chargesheet in the MC College dormitory in Sylhet. After more than two months, the chargesheet was filed in the court of Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Abul Kashem on Thursday (December 3rd) morning. The investigating officer of the case Indranil Bhattacharya has filed a chargesheet accusing 8 people.

BM Ashraf Ullah Taher, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) of the Metropolitan Police, confirmed the submission of the chargesheet.

It is learned that the chargesheet has been filed against Saifur Rahman as the main accused, alleging that six people were involved in the rape and two others. Those directly involved in the rape – Saifur Rahman, Shah. Mahbubur Rahman Rony, Tarekul Islam Tarek, Arjun Laskar, Md. Ainuddin alias Ainul and Mizbaul Islam Rajan. In addition to assisting in the rape. Rabiul Hasan Islam and Mahfuzur Rahman Masum have been accused.

Earlier (November 30), the DNA report of the rape case was sent to the investigating officer of the case through the court. That report found their involvement with rape. The investigating officer of the case Indranil said that the truth of this has been found. However, all the 8 arrested accused have given confessional statements under section 164 in the court.Meanwhile, after receiving the DNA report, the police filed the chargesheet in the court very quickly.

Incidentally, the 25-year-old girl was gang-raped at the MC College dormitory in Sylhet last night (September 25) while visiting her husband. Later that night, the victim’s husband filed a case with the city’s Shahparan (Rah.) Police station. After this incident, anti-rape movement started in the whole country including Sylhet.

At one stage, under the pressure of the people, the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh also amended the anti-rape law by keeping the provision of death penalty.
