Quader urges cultural activists to be united against communalism

Dhaka: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today called upon the cultural activists to be united against communalism and come forward to resist the communal forces in the country.

“Those love cultural activities must get united against communalism. The roots of the poisonous tree of the communal forces have to be eradicated,” he told a function at city’s Bangabandhu Avenue through videoconferencing from his official residence.

AL cultural affairs subcommittee arranged the function to distribute financial assistance among the pandemic-hit artistes on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, asserted that the door of Awami League is closed forever for those who do not uphold the spirit of the birth of Bangladesh.

Reiterating that the biggest challenge for the government now is to tackle COVID-19 pandemic and the communal forces, he said BNP is the patron of communal forces and that is why all should get united to resist them.

Commenting on a statement of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the AL general secretary said: “They (BNP leaders) are not supposed to find democracy in the country as they are isolated from the people.”

Closing their doors and windows, the BNP leaders have been providing lip service only and they cannot see what is happening around the world, he added.

Quader said since the vision of BNP is hidden by fog, they cannot see democracy as well as the development and prosperity of the country.

Highlighting the plight of the people amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working restlessly to secure the lives and livelihoods of the country’s people.

From the very beginning of the crisis caused by the pandemic, Sheikh Hasina has taken effective steps to prevent coronavirus, he added.

Mentioning that artists have no work now due to coronavirus crisis, the AL general secretary said their financial crisis must be removed.

He urged the authorities concerned to pay attention to the plights of artistes and help them overcome their crisis.

AL cultural affairs secretary and subcommittee member secretary Ashim Kumar Ukil and its office secretary Barrister Biplob Barua were, among others, present at the meeting with subcommittee chairman Ataur Rahman in the chair. Bss.
