Sakhawat Hossain: Public universities in Bangladesh took the plunge to hold their exams being hooked virtually through online components thanks to tumultuous state of second wave of Covid-19 epidemic. The decision was taken at a meeting of the UGC with the vice-chancellors of all public universities on the 6th of May, Thursday in light of Student’s damnifications on learning. University Grant Commission (UGC) set an outline as to the online tests and assessments.
In view of the fact that second wave of Covid-19 is affecting handful of individuals of the country and leaving wealth of succumbs being super invasive, reopening date of schools, colleges and universities scheduled as the 23th and the 24th instant respectively as well as dormitories’ reopening issue have fallen into an ambiguous date now.
Recently, at the behest of ministry of education, a committee was formed concerning the online tests of public universities wherein professor Dil Afroza Begum, member of UGC assigned as a convenor. The committee underlined an online based viva voce alongside class test, creative assignment, and MCQ pattern tests to assess their examinees, however the internet facilities would be quite challenging in this case, the committee offered a less optimistic view of internet access.
Dhaka University deans’ committee on Wednesday, the 5th of May made a decision to hold final exams of all academic years’ students on July 1 having virtually linked with internet, if the covid circumstance doesn’t come up with an equilibrium position in the country, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal added. University authority thinks of getting teachers trained up in line with the university curriculum to fit for online appearance classes.
The recommendation came from a virtual meeting of the committee comprising all the faculty deans of DU with VC Prof M Akhtaruzzaman in the chair on Wednesday evening.
