Rejecting the new committee of Sylhet District Chhatra League, some leaders and activists of the party blocked the procession and road. At that time, the protesting leaders and activists chanted various harsh slogans mentioning the name of the newly elected general secretary of the district BCL, Rahel Siraj. Ineligible persons have been given place in this committee in exchange for large sums of money from their demand center. They strongly condemned the sale of these top-level posts.
The names of the president and general secretary of Sylhet district and metropolitan Chhatra League were announced from the center around 12 noon on Tuesday (October 12). Nazmul Alam of Tilagarh group was announced as the president of the district BCL and Rahel Siraj of Telihaor group was announced as the general secretary.
Besides, Kishwar Jahan Sourav of Darshandeuri group was announced as the president of Mahanagar Chhatra League and Naeem Ahmed of Kashmir group as general secretary.
Besides, the names of six people were announced as central members. They are Jawad Ibne Zahid Khan, Biplob Kanti Das, Muhibur Rahman Muhib, Kanak Pal Arup, Hossain Mohammad Sagar and Sanjay Pashi Joy.
After the announcement of this committee, extreme anger arose among a section of Chhatra League. Raheel Siraj of the Telihaor group got the post of general secretary of the district BCL, but dissatisfaction within the group reached its climax.
A large section of the Telihaor group, led by Advocate Nasir Uddin Khan, general secretary of the Sylhet district Awami League, wanted Jawad Ibn Zahid Khan as general secretary instead of Raheel Siraj. But the leaders and activists of the group took out a protest procession from Telihaor at 4 pm as Jawad was made the central member instead of the general secretary.
The procession prevents police procession in front of the city’s Zindabazar al-Hamra Market in the city. Ignoring the police obstruction, the procession moved forward. At Chauhatta point, the protesting leaders and activists blocked the road by burning tires. After some time of road blockade, they went back.
