Nazrul Islam, Joypurhat: Members of a mosque committee demanded recovery of 23 acres of mosque land from miscreants at a press conference at Joypurhat press club yesterday.
Kanshra Paschimpara village mosque members of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat district organized the press conference and made the demand. Mosque committee member Ayub Hossain read out a written statement at a press conference at Joypurhat Press Club conference room on yesterday. In his statement he said 23 acres and 34 decimal land of the mosque is in the name of Waqf Estate.
Motawalli Nazrul Islam Talukder who was Motawlli of this mosque in immediate previous committee for three years failed to give account for Tk 29 lakh of the committee. He was later charged with corruption worth Tk 29 lakh. Later on, Bangladesh Waqf administration approved a 13-member committee making Mostafizur Rahman motawalli.
At that time, motawalli nazrul islam Talukder of the previous committee was re-appointed by the Bangladesh Waqf administration from Dhaka for three years on January 15, 2020. On January 22, 2020, members of the Mosque Committee filed a writ petition in the High Court Division (Writ Petition No. 1732/2020). High Court declared Nazrul Islam Talukder, accused in the corruption case, illegal.
On November 17, 2020, Nazrul Islam was ordered to comply with the high court order when a copy of the order was submitted to Bangladesh Waqf administration. Nevertheless, they continued to cultivate the mosque land forcibly. The high court later upheld a six-month stay against Motawalli on March 11, 2021.
On June 6, 2021, the High Court issued a ruling against two Dhaka office officials, including Motawalli Nazrul IslamTalukder for disobeying the high court order within four weeks. Later, on June 9, the Dhaka Waqf Office ordered them all to refrain from performing their duties. When the members of the Mosque Committee went to cultivate the land, Motawalli Nazrul Islam Talukder and his men beat them up, injured them and stopped cultivating the land.
They added that in the last two years, the imam, moajjean, khadem and teachers have been living a dehumanized life because of non-payment of salaries the mosque. Normal activities of the mosque have come to a halt as the administration has not taken any action despite various communications. That is why finding no way we are holding a press conference to bring the matter to the notice of all. We are demanding a solution to the issue. The press conference was attended, among others, by Motawalli Mostafizur Rahman Talukdar, Belal Talukdar, Afzal Hossain and Qazi Limon, members of the Mosque Committee.
