Moulvibazar’s Baralekha police have arrested a man along with 420,000 Shalaka Nasir bidis smuggled from India. SI Abu Saeed led by Inspector (Investigation) Ratan Chandra Debnath of Baralekha Police Station at Abdul Bachit’s Market in Chandagram Bazar of Baralekha on Tuesday. SI Ataur Rahman and SI Hazrat Ali raided and arrested a man named Jahangir (30) along with a bidi. At that time, 420,000 Indian Nasir Uddin bidis were recovered from a pickup van.
Inspector of Police Ratan Debnath said the raid was carried out on the basis of secret information on the instructions of District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zakaria. At that time, bidi consignment was being unloaded in a pickup van on the ground floor of Abdul Basit Market. Sensing the presence of the police, the two escaped, but one named Jahangir was arrested. After seizing 4 lakh 20 thousand Shalaka Nasir bidis, a case was filed against the detainee and he was sent to Moulvibazar Court.
