Amirul Kabir Suzan.Mithapukur (Rangpur): Mithapukur police have arrested Mulhota along with a woman member of Ajggan Party during an auto hijacking in Rangpur’s Mithapukur. They were arrested from Bhangni Bazar in Bhangni Union of the upazila on Wednesday night. Police sent the detainees to jail on Thursday.
According to police and local sources, Abdur Razzah, son of Mofez Uddin of Padmaharpur village in the neighboring Pirganj upazila, was taken away by members of Ajnaan Party on March 12 after mixing sleeping pills with juice. The victim driver lodged a complaint at Mithapukur police station. Mithapukur police started investigation on the complaint.
Last Wednesday night, two women of Ajnaan Party tried to feed juice to a motorist in Bhanni Bazar of the upazila. If there is any suspicion, the locals inform the police. Police found the truth after investigating the incident. From there, Mithapukur police arrested 3 active members including the main leader of Ajnaan Party. They are Nur Alam, 38, son of Abdul Wahab of Kafrikhal union in Mithapukur upazila, Akter Sumaiya, 18, daughter of Rashid Bepari of Mirzaganj in Patuakhali district and Akter Sumi, 20, daughter of Swapan Jamardar of Bakerganj in Barisal district. According to the information given by them, 2 battery powered autos, 01 motorcycle, 08 mobile phones and cash of Tk 50,000 were recovered. Police also seized 04 ranges, 01 pipe ranges and 02 star ranges used for their theft.
According to the police, Nur Alam, the head of the gang for a long time, used to hire cars, auto rickshaws or motorcycles with his members in various guises. Then they would establish a good relationship with the driver and take sleeping pills with juice. After that, if the driver fainted, he would leave him at a convenient place and take away valuables including auto. Then the members involved in the ring would distribute the money to the sellers by changing the color of the looted items in Hanif Auto in Rangpur. The cycle has so far admitted to more than 15 to 16 incidents.
Rangpur District Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (D-Circle) Kamruzzaman said a case has been filed against the arrested accused and they have been sent to jail.
