Pirganj (Rangpur) Correspondent: In Pirganj, Rangpur, two angry journalists left the scene before the organized sweet shopkeepers could unite while demanding extortion in a sweet shop. A written complaint has been lodged with Pirganj police station in this regard. The incident took place at noon on Monday (August 2) at the traditional Khalashpir Hat in Madankhali Union of the upazila.
According to the complaint, Ariful Islam (32) and Mostafa (Bima Mosta) (42), sons of Raja Miah of Jagannathpur village, demanded Rs. At one stage, the two so-called journalists extorted Rs 200/300 from some shopkeepers. When the issue quickly spread to the sweet business community, they erupted in protest.
At one stage, when all the sweet traders were to unite, the journalists saw the situation strange and got stuck on a motorcycle. Sirajul Islam, a sweet shopkeeper, has lodged a written complaint with the Pirganj Police Station on behalf of the traders. The business community has demanded legal action subject to proper investigation.
Pirganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saresh Chandra said, “I have received the complaint and will take legal action after investigating the matter.”
