The post of Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has been changed.

Pakistani media Dawn reported on Wednesday that Lieutenant General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum has been appointed as the new director general of ISI. With this, Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid resigned from the post of ISI chief.

The Taliban took control of the Afghan capital, Kabul, in mid-August, 20 years after the US-led invasion. Then, when the Taliban was going through a complicated process of forming a new government in Afghanistan, Faiz Hamid, the head of ISI, suddenly went to Kabul. There, he said, all problems would be solved. Within days of his visit, the Taliban announced an interim government with relatively conservative leaders.

According to Pakistani rules, the prime minister appointed the head of the ISI on the advice of the army chief. Outgoing ISI chief Faiz Hamid has been appointed commander of the Pakistan Army’s Peshawar Corps, Dawn reports.
