One day after the sinking of the trawler, 144 fishermen including 11 trawlers were rescued

A day later, 144 fishermen, including 11 trawlers, were rescued from the sinking trawlers in the Bay of Bengal and the Sundarbans near Patharghata.

The fishermen were rescued around 11 a.m. on Sunday (February 6) during an overall monitoring by the Barguna District Fishermen’s Trawler Owners’ Association and the Sundarbans Dublar Char Fisherman Group.

Earlier, at around 11pm on Friday, 25 fishing trawlers sank in a storm at various places in the Bay of Bengal. Twenty-seven fishermen went missing in the sinking of the trawler, according to sources in the fishermen’s trawler owners’ association.

The bodies of two inmates were recovered from a sinking trawler on Saturday evening. The deceased have been identified as Mamun Sheikh of Chitalmari upazila of Bagerhat and Ismail Sheikh of Jankhali area of ​​Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur district.

Mamun Sheikh was in the FB parents’ prayer trawler and Ismail Sheikh was in the FB Jamila Khatun fishing trawler. According to the Trawler Owners Association, Mamun and Ismail got into the deck of the trawler as the trawler overturned in the sea.

Eighteen fishing trawlers sank in different parts of the Bay of Bengal during the storm on Friday night and most of the fishermen in the trawlers were able to swim to safety. Even then, several fishermen went missing. On Saturday morning, local fishermen, members of the forest department, the Coast Guard and members of the navy launched an operation to rescue the missing fishermen. The bodies of the two jails rescued so far have been handed over to their relatives.

Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the Barguna District Fishermen’s Trawler Owners ‘Association, said the Barguna District Fishermen’s Trawler Owners’ Association and the Dublar Char Fisherman Group were in the sea to rescue more than 100 trawlers after the trawler sank. Many fishermen and trawlers are still missing.

An official from the Coast Guard’s West Zone said on condition of anonymity that their rescue operation was continuing. The bodies of the two prisoners were recovered on Saturday evening.

He added that the rescue of 11 trawlers and 144 fishermen could be a private initiative. However, this is not yet known.
