Sylhet Bureau: Police have been able to unravel the mystery of a clue-less murder case in Sylhet. He also gave a confessional statement in court after arresting a man named Helal Uddin Mansur in connection with the murder. According to the police, Mansoor was killed due to an argument between three cannabis users.
Akhter Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Surma Police Station in Sylhet, said the body of an unidentified youth was recovered from the side of the railway line in the area of Humayun Rashid Chattar in South Surma on the morning of July 8.
He had a sharp weapon wound to his abdomen. As the body was not immediately identified, an autopsy report was prepared and an autopsy was conducted. After matching the fingerprints, it was found out that the deceased was Helal Uddin Mansur (27).
Mansur, a resident of Bandarban, lived as a floater in the city of Sylhet. Later, the police led by Assistant Commissioner of South Surma Police Station Md Ismail arrested a man named Al-Amin (22) in the incident.
Al Amin is the son of Abdul Baten of Doarabazar in Sunamganj. At present he lives as a tenant of Sohag Mia Colony, Road No. 1, Barikandi. The OC said that during interrogation, Al Amin confessed to killing Helal Uddin Mansur.
Citing Al Amin, the OC said the deceased Helal Uddin alias Mansoor, Bashir and Al Amin were friends. On the night of July 7, they used cannabis together and when they had a quarrel with Bachir over his mobile phone, Bachir stabbed Mansoor in the stomach with a knife.
When Mansur fell on the spot, they fled. Al-Amin, 22, who was arrested, was produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Monday (December 21st) and gave a confessional statement under section 164.
